Adam is a survivor whom the protagonist EVE encounters. He leads EVE to Xion, the last surviving human city on Earth. He later reveals himself to be that of the Elder Naytiba.
A scavenger who roams the devastated land, Adam spends his days gathering resources that help keep the city of Xion and its remaining human inhabitants alive.
He works alone outside the city’s boundaries, and has little interaction with his fellow survivors beyond occasional contact with Orcal, an elder who relies on Adam to retrieve the Hyper Cells that are needed to bring Xion back from oblivion.
Following the 7th Airborne Squad’s arrival on Earth, Adam comes to EVE’s rescue, and the pair subsequently join forces, using each other’s skills to locate Hyper Cells, assist the citizens of Xion, and fight the Naytiba.
However, as the Elder Naytiba, Adam is the the leader of the Naytibas that appears as the final boss in Stellar Blade's "Return to the Colony" ending.
Biography[]
"Adam is initially introduced as a Scavenger from Xion. He saved EVE's life from an Unidentified Naytiba. Though EVE did not trust him at first, Adam suggests that he and EVE work together, and so they arrive at Eidos 7.
After their business at Eidos 7 is over, Adam tells EVE about Xion, the Last Remaining City, and suggests that he and EVE work together even further.
Adam is unike any Scavengers, and his safehouse features advanced facilities like an Aerodrome and a Tetrapod. He even has a silver tongue, which persuaded Orcal to support EVE.
Before EVE enters the Orbit Elevator, Adam leaves the group, saying he got an urgent message from Xion.
Raven's onslaught had destroyed Xion and innocent lives were lost. However, Adam is nowhere to be seen.
At the center of the Nest, Adam tells EVE the truth, that he is both Raphael Marks, the creator of Mother Sphere, and the Elder Naytiba, the creator of Naytibas. He has been watching EVE in order to continue humanity and build a new humankind. He reaches out his hand to EVE, saying that the two of them should work together for the sake of humanity's salvation."
"With a scream that came from the abyss of Levoire, a new existence was born. This marked an irreversible change on Earth, and the truth that Raphael Marks had once existed as a man and not the Elder Naytiba was forgotten. No one knows whether he willingly became a test subject, turned into a monster due to contamination, or was revived as a Naytiba by others. Either way, the reality is that both him and the world have been damaged beyond repair.
The Elder Naytiba felt a deep regret when he woke up to a world utterly destroyed, but there was nothing he could do to turn back time. Even with the powers of creation, it was impossible to return humanity to its past state. He fell into great despair and hid his true appearance, leaving everything to his vassals until the moment comes for his return. The moment draws nearer whenever an Angel descends from the sky. If the time comes to pass when the Elder Naytiba returns in his true form, it would mean the end of his redemption... or the end of everything."
In order to enact his plan, Adam was originally using Raven to fight back against Mother Sphere. However, he later discovered the existence of the 7th Airborne Squad member EVE, who was the most genetically advanced Andro-Eidos ever. All he had to do was wait for her to be sent to the planet to put his plan into motion. Realizing that this is what he needed for the perfect fusion between Human-Naytiba and Andro-Eidos, he opts to align himself with EVE instead of Raven, guiding EVE to different places on Earth that reveal the truth about Mother Sphere. This betrayal is what causes Raven to go insane and go after EVE and Tachy at the beginning of the game in addition to attacking Xion near the end.
Characteristics[]
Personality[]
Adam is a somewhat stoic and protective man that works hard for the people of Xion, though he doesn't interact with them much directly. Despite this, he is shown to have somewhat of a playful and sarcastic side when he is talking with EVE or bickering with Lily.
In actuality, Adam is a melancholic and depressed person who feels responsible for much of Earth's destruction and the events of the game. This is because his true persona, Raphael Marks, created both Mother Sphere and the Naytibas, whose war was what resulted in the struggle of the survivors and the planet's current state. His plan and actions in the Nest are, in his words, atonement for his crimes.
Appearance[]
Adam is a tall, handsome man with a lean build, short black hair, an olive complexion, and slight stubble. However, Adam has seemingly lived for decades, as he was around before the Final War and the invention of Mother Sphere. Being a perfect Human-Naytiba hybrid, this is most likely either preventing him from aging or slowing down the process considerably.
Adam's form as Elder Naytiba is similar to his human form at first, though he has three white and gold wings along his left side in addition to golden veins running across his body. After a short battle in which he doesn't really attack you, Adam transforms into his true form as the Elder Naytiba. This true from is a giant, white and gold, and armored creature who wields four weapons in addition to his wings.
Powers and Abilities[]
Adam, while initially not appearing to possess any combat skills of note like EVE does, is an adept pilot of both heavy machinery like the Tetrapod and of smaller machinery like drones. He knows his way around technology, especially ones of the old world that he scavenges.
In his true form as the Elder Naytiba, Adam wields four weapons that he uses in extensive combos, quick stabs and slashes, and surprise attacks by flying in the air or diving underwater. He is also able to command the power of light, creating shockwaves, lasers, and orbs that all target EVE relentlessly. He also possesses the ability to summon angels that orbit around him, leading to an instant death for EVE if they are not taken out in time. Like all Naytiba's, he's also very durable to kill. While not displayed during his fight, he can also create chains of light to bind objects and cause them to be vaporized.
He is also very intelligent, being the only Naytiba besides Orcal (after his reformation) and Raven (as far as regaining sentience) that hasn't given in to or has learned to control his feral instincts, perhaps even learning how to do so from his creation of Orcal who was the first Andro-Eidos and Naytiba hybrid. Combined with his age, this allowed him to learn many things. He is an adept pilot of both heavy machinery like the Tetrapod and of smaller machinery like drones. He knows his way around technology, especially ones of the old world that he scavenges. It's also revealed that he was the one to create Mother Sphere and held a role in the Naytiba's creation, showcasing intelligence in the makings of artificial creation and genetic manipulation.
He also displays other abilities such as:
- Long life and/or immortality: The Elder Naytiba either has an extended lifespan or is unable to die from old age period.
- Shapeshifting: Can take his original form as Adam. Though it isn't perfect, so he covers some of his Naytiba traits with clothing. If he desired, he can also reveal his wings while keeping his human form.
- Naytiba Influence: It is unclear if the Elder Naytiba can truly command the Naytibas in general. But remarks from Raven show that the Naytiba were capable of once attacking the Colony by trying to climb onto it, suggesting the Elder Naytiba has some degree of control over them. However, Adam and Orcal also mention an electromagnetic field surrounding Xion which the Naytibas don't like, so it could be that fending them off instead.
- Fusion: Can merge with another being, transferring his powers to the other while ensuring the Naytiba eggs don't die. Though such an act is implied to destroy his consciousness, or at least leave it dormant. EVE remarks that while she still feels herself, she does hint at feeling a bit different.
Other Appearances[]
Goddess of Victory: NIKKE[]
Adam appears in a collaboration between Stellar Blade and Goddess of Victory: NIKKE. In the collaboration event, Adam, Lily, and EVE are transported to the world of NIKKE, and begin aiding the Counters Squad in investigating the ruins of a flooded city while working on repairing the Tetrapod and looking for a way to return to their own world.
Trivia[]
- Adam, like EVE, is most likely inspired by the story of Genesis in the Bible. This is reinforced by Adam wanting to create a new breed of mankind with EVE. The angels he summons, alongside using imagery typically associated with angels, also suggests the biblical connection.
- Adam's real name, Raphael, may also be inspired by the Bible as the Archangel Raphael is known as the angel of healing and works to bring people closer to God to grant peace.
- Adam is apparently afraid of heights, as when EVE is crossing the gap in the Collapsed Rail Bridge section of Matrix 11, he asks her not to look down. If the player pans the camera down into the chasm below, he will exasperatedly exclaim “Oh, come on!”.
- Adam is not a required fight, as he is only able to be fought in the "Return to the Colony" ending by rejecting his hand.
- Since he is the Elder Naytiba as a result of volunteering himself as a test subject during the 2050s, it is likely that this granted him near-immortal status, or at the very least, decelerated aging.
- As Adam is both Raphael Marks and the Elder Naytiba, this could imply that he is the overarching antagonist of the entire game's lore. However, towards the end of the game, he seeks redemption for his past actions and cruelties that set the events of the game in motion.
- Should EVE choose to take Adam's hand, and fuse together, he is not seen again, making it difficult to determine how much influence he has over their fused form, or how much of his consciousness remains.
